Laser Treatments

Permanent Laser Hair Removal

Why live with unwanted hair? With laser hair removal, you can choose to enjoy smooth skin day after day - and say goodbye to waxing and shaving. Laser hair treatment is a safe, long-term solution to unwanted or excess hair for women as well as men. Laser hair removal is suitable for most areas of the face and body. A course of laser hair treatments will leave your skin soft and smooth.

How does laser hair removal work?

A laser beam is focused on the hair follicles beneath the skin surface to disable the follicel quickly and safely, and stop the hair from growing.

Will laser hair treatments hurt?

No. Laser hair removal treatment won't hurt and it won't damage the surrounding skin. It's suitable even if you have sensitive skin.

How many laser hair treatments will I need?

You will need a course of laser treatments (usually six) depending on your skin and hair type. An A Vita Laser Nurse Specialist will advise you as to how many treatments are appropriate.

Laser Facial Thread Vein Removal

KTP (Potassium Titanyl Phosphate) laser is used to treat minor blemishes and thread veins in the face or legs.

What Causes Facial Red Veins?

Facial Red Veins, or “broken veins”, are fine visible veins appearing near the surface of the skin. They tend to become larger and more intensive over time, appearing in clusters. Exposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays, wind, extreme temperatures, steroid creams, hormonal changes during pregnancy and radiotherapy have all been recognised as causes of Facial Red Veins. They can also be associated with Rosacea, a common condition of an unknown cause affecting the facial skin.

How Does Treatment Work?

Treatment with various lasers, particularly the KTP Laser System, works effectively on these conditions by matching the laser light to the colour of the lesion, therefore eliminating the vessels by heat. Through a technical process called Photothermolysis, the laser only interacts with the unwanted Red Vein, so completely bypassing normal ‘vein free’ skin. As each laser pulse is extremely brief there is no build up of heat on the skin, so minimizing interference with the skin structure, with virtually no risk of side effects. Some types of laser treatment can cause temporary bruising and swelling, but there is usually no need for interference with your daily routine.

Is it Safe?

Our state-of-the-art laser is operated by fully qualified Laser Nurse Specialists. It is regularly checked to the very highest standards by laser engineers. We adhere to the highest standards of health and safety and are registered with the Healthcare Commission.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

This depends on the individual and the seriousness of the condition, but on average 4-5 treatment sessions can achieve a very high reduction of unsightly Facial Red Veins.

Leg Thread Vein Treatment: Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of small thread veins and broken capillaries, mostly on the legs, by a tiny injection of a specially formulated and widely used solution.

The majority of small, visible leg thread veins can be successfully treated. These are usually known as “spider veins”. The correct medical term is Telangiectasias. The finer vessels as found on the face are usually treated with laser rather than Sclerotherapy.

How is the treatment administered?

A tiny needle is inserted into the vessel being treated. The vessel is then filled with a Sclerosant which cause microscopic damage to the cells lining the vein. The body then responds to this by trying to repair this injury which will shrink or eradicate it. This will be carried out for each vein or “spray” of interconnecting veins. A cotton swab may then be taped over the site which just needs to be left for a short time, half an hour so. Occasionally, support stocking must be worn afterwards. This will be discussed at your initial consultation. Most treatments last around 30 minutes.

Possible Complications

Complications are rare but occasionally the solution can escape from the tiny vein and this may produce an inflamed area in the surrounding skin. Lower leg thread veins and those in the ankle are much harder to treat and there is a small risk of developing a tiny ulcer following Sclerotherapy. Some patients will, following treatment develop a brown discoloration of the skin. This is more common in the lower than the upper leg and is due to the deposition, either of sun tan pigment melanin, or much more rarely, an iron-containing pigment known as Hemosiderin.

The discoloration can take several months to fade. Patients who are taking iron supplements are advised to cease these supplements prior to treatment as staining of the skin can develop. Please advise us at your consultation of any medications or supplements you are taking.

After Treatment

The veins may appear more prominent for a couple of weeks after treatment. The injection sites look like an insect bite and also may itch. The veins will start to fade after about a week or so and can continue to do so for up to eight weeks and occasionally longer if the veins are large to begin with. After eight weeks, any remaining veins may be re-injected to achieve further improvement.

The larger the vein, the more purple it is, the more treatments they will need to be eradicated. Generally one to six treatments will be necessary. You can continue with all daily activities and exercise is encouraged. There is usually no discomfort afterwards although you may look bruised for a few days.

After all the larger veins have been treated, there are often a few pink like thread veins left behind. These cannot be treated by Sclerotherapy as they are smaller than the size of the needle. Laser therapy may be used in this instance. Usually a 90% clearance is achieved.

Anti-Ageing Laser Treatments

How can I reverse the signs of ageing?... In the past, your only answer was one that often times proved unacceptable - go "under the knife". So you learned to live with a less than desirable look. Today, you don't have to. Today, cosmetic medicine has the answer you've been looking for, and one that allows you to achieve, faster than ever before, a more youthful look that you will absolutely fall in love with over and over again - Affirm Laser Treatment.

Affirm Laser Treatments are specifically for people whose skin shows signs of ageing, such as wrinkles, discolouration or imperfections. It can decrease the effect of sun damage and age. Wrinkles, fine lines, increased pore size and brown discolouration can be effectively diminished. It can also help in reducing the irregularity of acne and surgical scars as we as improving stretch marks.

The Affirm system makes skin appear more supple, youthful and full.

How does the Anti-Ageing laser work?

What makes collagen boosting Affirm such an effective procedure for skin rejuvination is the fact that it combines multiple energies into a single, fractional laser treatment to tighten the skin. Fractional treatment means that thousands of tiny dots (pixels) or laser energy are applied to the skin. The laser intensively creates a micro-thermal treatment zone while leaving surrounding, healthy tissue unaffected. Recovery times are greatly reduced while the healing process is sped up. Additionally, the growth of new collagen is initiated, replacing old, problem tissue with new firmer skin on the face, neck, chest, are and hands.
